My visit to Holland: Utrecht

At the beginning of  August I had an amazing trip! I visited Holland! I stayed for several days in Utrecht and enjoyed seeing the very nice city. I had short  trips to Amsterdam, to Efteling and to Kroller-Muller Museum. And I had an exciting bicycle ride in the park nearby the Museum.  I am going to share my experience with you .

A little bit history of Utrecht. The building that you see on my photo is Domkerk.  The city began precisely at this point. The Rhine had became the northern border of Roman's empire. Romans decided to set up a line of fortresses along the Rhine in 47 A.D. One of this fortresses or "costella" become the origin of the later city of Utrecht.

Furthermore! The name of this city - Utrecht - is also associated with this site. The fortress was built at a ford  along the Rhine and it was called "Traiectum", which  means "crossing". In a local language this  developed into "Trecht". "Uut-Trecht" = lowest Trecht. And finaly, Utrecht.

I'm not sure, but maybe it's a sculpture of St. Martin. I  took this picture in the very nice garden nearby Dom Tower. In 7th century a wooden church was founded here and was dedicated to missionary Martin of Tours, one of the missionaries accompanied the armies of Frank.

And finally today. Utrecht celebrates anniversary this year  - 300 year old of Treaty of Utrecht. It's very important  event for whole the world.

I want to remind: the purpose of this Blog - to advance my practice in English. I welcome your corrections in the comments.

  3. HI!
    Very Cool :)
    Some corrections:
    1. "This blog IS established...". When you want to use passive voice, the template is TO BE + V3 (for example- the apple is eaten / was eaten / will be eaten).
    2. "At the beginning of August I had an amazing trip!". The rule about using THE is that it makes the noun specific (e.g. "the boy" is a specific boy). Because of that you cannot use THE with names (of people, cities, or months), they are already specific! So to say "the Lawrence" or "the Utrecht" or "the August" is a mistake :)

Waiting for the next post! :)
