Israel: The Nisco Museum of Mechanical Music

On 31 August 2013
in the art village Ein Hod on the edge of Haifa
will be opened
an unusual exhibition

I'm talking about the works of art  of Nican Cohan.  You can see them in my photos. This art was made by Nican from fragments of mechanical toys, which were destroyed in 2010 during the big fire on Mount Carmel.

Nican had a rare collection of  mechanical toys in his gallery. Unfortunately,  there is only a small part of the collection in his gallery shop now. Nican's friends pooled efforts to save the remnants of the toys and to give them a second life.

I recommend you to visit the Nisco Museum not only because of the toys and the exhibition. Nican Cohan holds an unequal collection of antique music boxes and  other mechanical musical
instruments. It's the finest collection in the Middle East.

 The collection, which was accumulated
over 40 years by Nisan Cohan, the founder
of the Nisco Museum, contains music
boxes, hurdy gurdies, an automatic organ,
a reproducing player piano, a collection
of 100 year old manivelles, gramophones,
hand operated automatic pianos and
many other antique musical instruments.

Nican is a former American photographer. He dedicated 40 years of his life to this collection. He is a mysterious man. He talks, sings, plays... It is a great experience to attend a concert at the Nisco Museum.

I'm sure you will not be disappointed walking in Ein Hod.  You are going to see magnificent works of nature and artists.
